New Works
Performed and Available for Production!
One of the goals of Actors' Theatre is to provide a venue for new and relevant works to be performed. Not only do we want to produce these productions for our community, but we also would like to make these works available to other theatres.
The Story of Seven Passages
The goal of Actors' Theatre's production of Seven Passages: The Stories of Gay Christianswas to get beyond the current rant and impasse of our cultural climate in the ideological relationship between homosexuality and Christianity. By presenting the authentic stories of local gay and lesbian Christians, Seven Passages moved audiences into the realm of true empathy and understanding. Our production not only reached this goal, but also provided a rewarding experience for over 2,500 community members. Each night after the performance, we hosted talk-backs that helped to facilitate the continuation of dialogue outside the theatre.
Along with the wonderful community impact, this production opened up new doors for Actors' Theatre. Actors', along with the production's director, Stephanie Sandberg, owns the script of Seven Passages, making it the first full-length play that Actors' owns. We will also have an educational DVD of this production, which is a new outlet for Actors' Theatre to explore. This production has changed the perspective Actors' has on how one piece can impact our community in such a positive way.
