Seven Passages: The Stories of Gay Christians
Now available for performance and presentation
In 2007, Actors' Theatre premiered the original ethnography Seven Passages: The Stories of Gay Christians. Devised and lead by Dr. Stephanie Sandberg (who also devised 2010's Lines: The Lived Experience of Race), a primary goal was to find a way to move beyond the cultural impasse in the ideological relationship between homosexuality and Christianity. By presenting the authentic stories of local gay and lesbian Christians, Seven Passages moved audiences beyond the rhetoric and in to the realms of empathy and understanding.
Post-performance discussions ("talk-backs") also helped to facilitate the continuation of dialogue outside the theatre.
Seven Passages - The Film
In response to the demand of religious and educational groups, the original ethnography was transcribed in to a full-length film. The film contains materials for those wishing to incorporate the themes into their educational programs. Also included in the DVD are bonus interviews with the cast, devisor/director Stephanie Sandberg, and a detailed discussion guide that can be used for further study. View a preview of the DVD below:
