Characters:
All roles are open to individuals of all races and ethnicities (except where explicitly prescribed by the playwright), genders, abilities, body sizes, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic statuses. Trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer actors highly encouraged to audition.

Ben: Male presenting, 30’s, Multiracial with Black heritage, Drama teacher, Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion (DEI) dean. Black people have told him he speaks like a white boy. White people have
told him he’s “articulate and thoughtful.”
Jasmine: Female presenting, 20’s-30’s, Black, Afro-Latina, History teacher, a bit of a firebrand.
Frustrated. White people have told her that she’s “strong willed” and “speaks her mind.”
Cal: 18, White, a high school senior, and a Quaker. A class officer, but not because
he’s popular. Plays Devil’s Advocate in class to his classmates’ chagrin to get people to “see all
sides.” More likely to be talking to a teacher than his peers.
Jill: 50’s-60’s, White, Head of school--Penn Valley’s first woman head in 133
years. Sometime in her first three years of being Head of School. A Quaker. Wants to open space
for change but at times feels trapped in/by her position.
